Only last week I published an article where I talked about velvet and how much it has been back in vogue both in the fashion stores and in the furniture collections. Velvet is so fashionable right now that I’m here today to talk about it again (hope you like it!).
The renowned Danish company Republic of Fritz Hansen (read here another article on the company’s latest news) has decided to align with the trend and, in collaboration with the Lala Berlin clothing brand and its designer Leyla Piedayesh, launched a velvet version of the historic Series 7 ™ chair and Dot ™ stool.
The designer born in Tehran in Iran is known for its creativity and the ability to mix the Middle Eastern tradition with the modern and bohemian culture of Berlin. In this collection, the designer has reinterpreted the Series 7 chair creating a perfect harmony between a soft fabric such as velvet in warm and elegant tones and the modernity of the powder-coated legs.
The lala Berlin x Republic of Fritz Hansen collection consists of a front-upholstered Series 7 in a burgundy colour (‘lala Barberry’) and a fully upholstered Series 7 and Dot™ stool in a dark blue colour (‘lala Caspian’).
“Velvet brings back memories of my childhood in Iran and, above all, is comfortable and cosy. Taking this approach to a chair as iconic as the Arne Jacobsen Series 7 has been a great opportunity for me,” says Leyla. “The dark blue takes me back to midnights in the city of Isfahan, Iran, and the Cimmerian water of the Caspian sea, and when I see the burgundy shade, I can almost taste the barberries used in traditional Iranian cuisine. These two highly saturated shades are also widely used in the creation of Iranian rugs and can have the same mesmerising effect as an intricate rug pattern”.
The collection, in addition to the Scandinavian style and the Iranian reinterpretation, also has an Italian touch: the velvet used for the collection is actually produced by the Italian company Dedar.
The collection is produced in limited series and will be available from October 2017 to October 2018.
Iran is a country I love and that I was lucky enough to visit during the last Christmas holidays and I am therefore very happy with this collaboration between Scandinavia and the Middle East. Do you like this new version?
